Prescribe Kindness for Better Connections

With the negativity infiltrating our media sources right now, it is clear our world can use a little more kindness. Whether you are struggling to offer yourself grace while adjusting to a new normal, passing your stress and feelings of being overwhelmed on to others, or simply missing the connection with your loved ones, prioritizing kindness during this uncertain time is important. Think about the last act of kindness you did for yourself or for someone else. How did it make you feel? Kindness helps us to strengthen both outer and inner relationships which are crucial for improving our sense of belonging, longevity and quality of life. Although our ability to connect with others has been put to the test, the ways in which we can practice kindness, even from a distance, is endless.

Here are 5 easy ways we can act:

  1. Call or video chat friends and family. Remind them of how special they are and how much you appreciate them.
  2. Share kind words of acknowledgement and appreciation with a coworker.
  3. If cohabitating, pick up their least favorite chore or other responsibility for a day.
  4. Take a walk, bike ride, jog outside and greet your neighbors (from a safe distance, of course).
  5. Donate or volunteer your time.

Kindness is contagious and you never know just how big of an impact a small gesture can make. We hope everyone gets a chance to sprinkle our world with kindness. Even from a distance, our good acts hold power and meaning. We are all in this together, and it is important to be kind to ourselves and to one another.
