The Back to School Tips and Tricks

It’s that time again! It is easy to get caught up in the many stressors of preparing for the school year. There are logistic stressors, such as the never-ending to-do list and countless errands. The financial stressors of money spent on classroom supplies, clothes, gadgets, and more. The social stressors of preparing to meet new co-workers, parents, and students. Then the emotional stressors of all unknowns. Not knowing what to expect can be the most stressful of all!

To relieve some of this stress, it is essential to view the experience as enjoyable or perhaps as a challenge to meet. Experience used to grow and learn. The more optimistic the attitude, the more enjoyment will come from going back to school.

Below are a few tips from us on how to stay stress-free during the hustle and bustle of school preparation:

Start early!

The number one way to prevent stress is to start early and prepare ahead of time. Allowing yourself more time to prepare will help you to avoid the dreaded time crunch.

Sleep!

Sleep allows time for Cortisol, the stress hormone, to return to its normal level. Lack of sleep allows cortisol levels to remain elevated causing a continuous feeling of stress.

Exercise!

Exercise is a great way to sweat out your stressors, clear your mind, and leave you feeling great. Even just 15 to 20 minutes before or after school or the workday can make a world of difference!

Visualize the first day!

Take 3 minutes to close your eyes and imagine as vividly as you can, a day buzzing with positive energy, a lot of laughs, completing your tasks with ease and anything else that makes you feel satisfied after work or school. Visualizing the first day as an enjoyable experience will provide you a more positive, less stressful outlook.

Breathe!

The best thing to do when faced with an overwhelming situation is to take a step back and breathe deeply and calmly. Take this time to reflect on the bigger picture. Using your breath can help guide you through uncomfortable and stressful situations.
