Educating Educators on Health Plans

We can all agree that teachers and school staff are our superheroes. Every superhero deserves a comprehensive health plans that meet their needs. How else would you define someone who is committed to ensuring our children receive a great education and the skills they need to be successful in life? Sometimes our school heroes feel adrift navigating the confusing world of health insurance. Let’s face it, understanding insurance benefits is complicated! That’s where Valley Schools, in partnership with our member districts, steps in to help.

Sometimes our members need to be educated on what plans are available and how it can benefit them. For example, did you know that a Health Savings Account in conjunction with a High Deductible Health Plans have triple tax advantages?

Members who enroll in a High Deductible Health Plan with a Health Savings Account don’t pay federal, State or FICA tax on the money they deposit. They can build that money towards retirement, or use it to pay current, qualified medical expenses, tax free. There is no use it or lose it rule and they can invest the savings if they choose, and interest earned is not taxed. If members change health plans, employers or retire, the savings account stays with them. Three BIG ways to save now and into the future!

This dynamic duo of a HDHP with HSA isn’t right for all school employees, but it can be the most affordable, especially for those with family coverage. Typically, the HDHP has the lowest dependent premium cost when compared to a PPO or HMO.

Valley Schools is committed to supporting our school heroes!  Look for us at your next open enrollment meeting. We are always happy to assist members in understanding plan options and savings opportunities.
